Senior School

The Senior School offers a challenging academic environment with a breadth of programming that enables students to customize their learning — discovering, developing, and honing their unique strengths, talents, and passions.

With an emphasis on academic rigour, the Senior School provides exciting learning opportunities focused on deepening student engagement and fostering a culture of inquiry in and outside the classroom. Through learning cohorts, Harkness discussions, and experiential and project-based learning, students are encouraged to work hard and excel as they define their purpose.

Through their time at the Senior School, students find their voice and develop their independence, strengthening their connection to the world and their sense of agency within it. They graduate as life-long learners who will go out into the world and become conscious citizens, committed to making positive contributions to their communities.

At the Senior School, students are well-acquainted with their teachers and their peers. Senior students have a wide range of opportunities to find their passion and place in the school community. There is no one path through the Senior School — instead, hundreds of individual paths that each student will carve for himself.

While students are challenged by the rigour of the Senior School academic program, they are well-supported by faculty, staff, and their peers in a community that shares a passion for learning and personal growth. The Senior School offers a comprehensive support system for learning, including personal counselling, peer support through the Honour Council, and university counselling. We are committed to working with each student to develop a strengths-based approach to success during their time at St. George’s School.

For students in the Senior School, some of the most important growth happens outside the classroom. From the array of co-curricular activities and clubs, to Outdoor Education and Global Stewardship, students have incredible opportunities to personalize their learning, deepen their understanding of themselves, and make real-world connections.

At St. George’s, we believe our community shares a responsibility for the betterment of society. The Global Stewardship program allows students to grow their understanding of world issues and make positive contributions to the broader community.

Senior School students have the opportunity to choose from Applied Design, Skills, and Technology (ADST) courses, which range from Woodworking to Robotics, Entrepreneurship to Computer Studies, Business Education, and Drafting.

ADST courses focus on learning experiences that challenge students to use the Design Thinking process to tackle real-world problems and create workable solutions. Students engage in frequent simulations — including case studies or events like the annual Dragons' Lair — and make strong connections to community partners through mentors, guest speakers, and field trips.
