Appointment of St. George’s Tenth Head of School: Mr. Alex Tate
The Board of Directors of St. George’s School is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Alex Tate as St. George’s School’s tenth Head of School, beginning in September 2027 for the 2027–2828 academic year.
Mr. Tate brings a wealth of educational and leadership experience, currently serving as Headmaster of St John’s School, Leatherhead, in the UK, and previously as Headmaster of Bedford Modern School. Educated at the University of Oxford, Mr. Tate spent eleven years in international business before transitioning into education at top UK independent boys' schools, including Dulwich College and Abingdon School.
Known for his authentic and relational leadership and a deep commitment to boys’ education, Mr. Tate aligns strongly with St. George’s Ready and Relevant Strategic Plan.
His educational philosophy centres on the conviction that every boy deserves to be known, challenged, and cared for, where a successful Graduate is a young man who is both anchored and agile, secure enough in his own identity to move with confidence through a world that will not stop changing. In a world that asks much of young people, he believes schools have a responsibility not only to prepare students for success, but to help them become thoughtful, capable, and principled men.

Honouring Mr. David Young
Mr. David Young will conclude his headship at the end of the 2026–27 school year. Under his leadership, St. George’s has continued to strengthen its position as one of Canada’s leading independent schools, and the Board is deeply grateful for his service and leadership.
Mr. Tate is the first to acknowledge the strength of the foundation Mr. David Young has helped build, and he will inherit a thriving community because of it.
The Board will work closely with both leaders to support a seamless transition, and looks forward to recognizing Mr. Young’s many contributions more fully as his tenure draws to a close.
